摘要: Objective The h -index was introduced as a means of quantifying the contribution researcher makes to scientific literature. We evaluated for academic neurosurgeons assess various methods calculation and determine whether can be used differentiate groups individuals by classifications. Methods calculated all from 10 institutions ranked highly 2012 U.S. News & World Report plus authors' institution via Scopus. also manually evaluate its accuracy. average on basis sex, rank, years in practice, institution, subspecialty. Cumulative mean -indices were each department. Results median 188 16 (mean, 19.71; range, 0–61). There positive association between -index, posttraining. significant difference "manually calculated" automated h-indices, particularly more senior physicians. men women not statistically significant. Among subspecialties, vascular surgeons had greatest general lowest. shifts departmental rankings when cumulative or indices compared with rankings. Conclusion Application bibliometric neurosurgery distinguish productivity posttraining, neurosurgical subspecialties. application compare departments is problematic and, at this time, reliable.
