摘要: Abstract Prolonged mechanical loading can lead to breakdown of skin and underlying tissues which can, in turn, develop into a pressure ulcer. The benefits relief and/or redistribution minimise risk have been well documented these strategies be provided by employing support mattresses internal air pressures alternated the ulcers patients during prolonged periods bed-rest. paper describes performance prototype alternating mattress (APAM), terms its ability maintain viability group healthy volunteers lying supine position. In particular, includes sacral section supported with low (ALP), values adjusted subject morphology, using an in-built sensor. was at four different head bed (HOB) angles ranging from 0 60°. Internal transcutaneous gas (TcPO2/TcPCO2) tensions sacrum control site, scapula, were monitored. Interface also measured. sensor found sensitive BMI 12 volunteers. majority test conditions produced TcPO2 values, either remained similar those scapula or fluctuated levels providing adequate viability. However few cases, associated raised HOB angle (≥45°), there compromise sacrum, as reflected depressed elevation TcPCO2 above normal range. all interface rarely exceeded 60 mmHg. Although such studies need extended involve bed-bound individuals, results offer potential for development intelligent APAM systems, whose characteristics individual morphology. Such preventive loaded sites will designed subjects deemed high developing ulcers.
