摘要: Abstract We earlier proposed that a human endogenous retroviral (HERV) superantigen (SAg) IDDMK 1,2 22 may cause type I diabetes by activating autoreactive T cells. Viral infections and induction of interferon-α (IFN-α) are tightly associated with the onset autoimmunity. Here we establish link between viral IFN-α-regulated SAg expression polymorphic defective HERV-K18 provirus. has three alleles, two full-length envelope genes, all encode SAgs. Expression SAgs is inducible IFN-α this sufficient to stimulate Vβ7 cells levels comparable transfectants constitutively expressing Endogenous induced via novel mechanism through which environmental factors disease in genetically susceptible individuals.
