摘要: Abstract Background Quick diagnosis units (QDUs) are a promising alternative to conventional hospitalization for the of suspected serious diseases, most commonly cancer and severe anemia. Although QDUs as effective in reaching timely diagnosis, full economic evaluation comparing both approaches has not been reported. Aims To evaluate costs QDU vs. anemia using cost-minimization analysis on proven assumption that health outcomes were equivalent. Methods Patients referred Bellvitge University Hospital Barcelona over 51 months with final (unrelated malignancy), lymphoma, lung compared patients hospitalized workup same diagnoses. The total cost per patient until was analyzed. Direct non-direct compared. Results Time (n = 195) length-of-stay (n = 237) There considerable savings from hospitalization. Highest three groups related fixed direct hospital stays (66% savings). Savings structural general functioning 33% savings. variable investigations 1% Overall all €867,719.31. Conclusion appear be cost-effective resource avoiding unnecessary cancer. Internists, executives, healthcare authorities should consider establishing this model elsewhere.
