摘要: Abstract Climate warming is altering the distribution of species, producing range shifts and promoting local extinctions. There an urgent need to understand underlying mechanisms that influence persistence populations across a species' in face global warming. Ocenebra erinaceus marine gastropod exhibits high intraspecific variability maternal investment physiological capacity during early stages, which suggests adaptation natal environmental conditions. In this study, reproductive traits trans-generational were measured two subtidal populations: one from middle (the Solent, UK) another towards southern end their geographic (Arcachon, France). Local was evaluated with transfer experiment (i.e. Arcachon females transferred Solent thermal conditions) tolerance response embryos exposed temperatures between 10 20 °C. This study shows both have similar fitness; however, there are adaptive costs live under location, resulting trade-offs traits. Transferred show lower output, maladapted new environment. The demonstrates contrasting ranges populations. Adaptation conditions observed embryos, showing poor performance mortalities Our results provide better understanding differences adaptations species’ insights into how climate will impact encapsulated species exhibiting location-specific adaptation.
