摘要: Chromosome numbers in six species ofOphioglossum available Poona and inHelminthostachys zeylanica L. obtained from Kerala are given.O. nudicaule L.,O. gramineum Willd.,O. pedunculosum Prantl (sensu non-Desv.) andO. fibrosum Schum. were found to haven=120 chromosomes.O. aitchisoni d’Alm. had 210–215 bivalents, reticulatum hadn=420. Of these the chromosome number inO. peduculosum was not reported before. Meiotic cycle this showed some irregularities such as bridge formation cases at anaphase I. The paper further discusses significance of polyploidy observed traces evolutionary trends seen genus on basis numbers. There exists sort correlation between size plants their No variation chromosomes different same growing localities observed. On chromosomal analysis, it seems thatO. nudicaule, O. group is more primitive aitchisoni, groups advanced. This agrees with conclusion drawn by one us (Mahabale, 1965) regard, morphology species.
