摘要: Anopheles stephensi, the major vector of urban malaria in India, was recently detected for first time Sri Lanka Mannar Island on northwestern coast. Since there are different biotypes An. stephensi with capacities a study undertaken to further characterise genotype and biotype Island. Mosquito larvae were collected Pesalai village maintained insectary until adulthood. Adult identified morphologically using published keys. Identified adult molecularly characterized two mitochondrial (cox1 cytb) one nuclear (ITS2) markers. Their PCR-amplified target fragments sequenced checked against available sequences GenBank phylogenetic analysis. The average spiracular thoracic lengths index determined identify based corresponding indices Indian stephensi. All DNA samples matched reported from Middle East India. However, single nucleotide variation cox1 sequence suggested an amino acid change valine methionine protein Lankan Morphological data consistent presence type-form Lanka. present provides more detailed molecular characterization suggests mutation gene may be indicative founder effect causing initial diversification form. distribution potent needs established by studies throughout island as its spread adds challenge maintaining country’s malaria-free status.
