摘要: 1. 1. Of the copius carotenoids int he soft tissues of purple coral, Allopora californica, nearly 70percent os astaxanthin, mainly unesterified. 2. 2. There are minor proportions two other diketones, including free phoenicoxanthin, and some 15 pe cent a polyhydroxy-β-carotene. 3. 3. The alakali-cleaned, aragonitic skelton, yielding, even when pulverized, no pigment to hot organic solvents, owes its colour tot presence astaxanthin firmly bonded calcareous deposit. 4. 4. This carotenoid was recoverable (1) by dissolving carbonate in dilute acids, or (2) violet, aqueous colloidal solution metathesis calcium with oxalate di-sodium ethylenedinitrilotetraacetate.
