Discussion on ‘Was the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake triggered by Zipingpu reservoir?’

摘要: Some recent publications presented a result suggesting that Zipingpu reservoir hastened the occurrence of 2008 MS8.0 Wenchuan earthquake by tens to hundreds years. Their researches calculated Coulomb stress change induced on rupturing fault earthquake. results, however, are critically dependent upon 3-D event location, and plane orientation. We repeated Ge et al.’s work in this paper found an improper dip angle parameter their 2-D model might lead wrong conclusion. Both modeling results based with proper parameters will show changes alone were neither large enough nor had correct orientation affect earthquake, which supports our argument local seismicity analysis calculation model.
