Photolysis of methylcobalamin. Nature of the reactive excited state

摘要: Abstract Photolysis of methylcobalamin (Co III corrin(CH 3 )L + H 2 O → Co (H O)L CO OH − ) shows a pronounced wavelength dependence. It is suggested that the reactive excited state ligand-to-ligand charge transfer (LLCT) type and involves promotion an electron from CoC σ-bond to π*(corrin) orbital. This LLCT transition mixes with ππ*(corrin) transitions. Owing this contribution, ππ*-absorption bands are also photoactive but reduced efficiency.
