摘要: In 2003 the World Health Organization (WHO) convened a working group and published set of standard methods for studies measuring nasopharyngeal carriage Streptococcus pneumoniae (the pneumococcus). The recently reconvened under auspices WHO updated consensus methods. These describe collection, transport storage samples, as well provide recommendations identification serotyping pneumococci using culture non-culture based approaches. We outline position group, evidence supporting this position, areas worthy future research, epidemiological role studies. Adherence to these will reduce variability in conduct pneumococcal undertaken context vaccine trials, implementation studies, epidemiology more generally so methodology does not confound interpretation study findings.
