摘要: Target Eight of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation requires knowledge and management Red List species in cultivation, but what are practical issues difficulties associated with such ex situ management? Rhododendron is not native to New Zealand, preliminary data indicates present large numbers collections botanic gardens, many these accessions known wild-source. Following workshop Singapore 2008 it became apparent that Zealand holds a considerable number species, particularly Vireya some otherwise wild origin. This resource appears have potential conservation, we investigating this issue three part study. A survey reinforces role Pukeiti Trust collection as major (about 160), also highlights around nomenclature, recording labelling. DNA fingerprinting study showing extent variation among different accessions, therefore usefulness conservation. At same time will inform taxonomic within group, which turn influence conservation action priorities. The from two studies then be used propose paper outline our investigation into subgenus
