摘要: Abstract Providing a wealth of geophysical and geological data, the 2011 Tohoku-oki tsunami offered rare opportunity to advance research on sedimentology. In this chapter, six key findings, presented in form lessons learned, are identified based review recent studies other relevant literature: 1. limitations posed when using marine materials as evidence for inundation; 2. larger extent lower preservation potential associated with offshore deposits; 3. possible false dating paleotsunami events due tsunami-induced erosion; 4. uncertainty inundation distances deduced from deposit extent; 5. spatial variability thickness its relation flow depth; 6. challenges estimating size earthquakes deposits. response extensive loss life property caused by tsunami, well fact that precursor has not been effectively used disaster management programs, importance gained significant attention expectation it will provide reliable information recurrence interval devastating tsunamis. An improved understanding provenance, depositional processes, distribution, enhance our ability identify, date, quantify paleotsunamis.
