IADL functions, cognitive deficits, and severity of depression: a preliminary study.

摘要: Objective Despite the documented association of cognitive dysfunction with impairment in instrumental activities daily living (IADLs) geriatric depression, relationship among deficits distinct IADLs severity depression and specific impairments remains to be clarified. The authors examined domains attention, initiation/perseveration, construction, conceptualization, memory nine IADLs. Methods subjects were 105 nondemented elderly patients but at least one IADL a history or presence major depression. Impairment assessed Philadelphia Multilevel Assessment Instrument (MAI) 24-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (Ham-D), respectively. Cognitive was Mini-Mental State Exam (MMSE) Mattis Dementia (DRS). Results Six influenced by domains. Abnormal scores an aspect executive dysfunction, affecting most IADLs; it interfered ability shop for groceries, prepare meals, take medicine, manage money. initiation/perseveration had prominent effect depressive symptoms affected shopping groceries preparing meals. Conclusions These relationships provide background developing interventions targeting functional associated dysfunctions
