摘要: Unpredictable events such as severe storms lead to an increase in circulating corticosterone (CORT) breeding birds. This is often accompanied by elevations foraging and irruptive behavior. We were interested determining if acute food restriction (such might occur during inclement weather) a sufficient cue elicit locomotor activity, CORT secretion, and/or decrease levels of binding globulin (CBG) white-crowned sparrows (Zonotrichia leucophrys gambelii). Male Z.l. gambelii housed individually environmental chambers on long days (LD 20:4) simulate season daylength. Birds fed ad libitum, select days, was removed 2 h after lights (fasted treatment), or replaced (control). analyzed CBG 1, 2, 6, 22 (lights on), 23 under fasted control conditions. also measured activity the 23-h experiment. Activity increased conditions daytime relative conditions, but did not differ between treatments night. Fasting little 6 significantly total above baseline (control), although h, matched those Plasma decreased 22-h fast, remained low fast. change elevate free birds libitum despite lack difference levels.
