摘要: A compact concentric cylinder apparatus, for the study of double refraction flow at low and intermediate velocity gradients, is described in detail. Since outer rotor, relatively large gradients can be attained before turbulent sets in, even when gap between cylinders as 0.2 cm. The light source a zirconium concentrated arc lamp, used conjunction with an interference filter. Sheets selected Polaroid are polarizer analyzer; field view flowing liquid large, so that least three four arms cross isocline simultaneously visible. remains fixed orientation. For measurements extinction angle, analyzer also, angle being read by turning reticle attached to graduated scale. Birefringence determined modified type Senarmont compensator.
