摘要: With the advances in computing technology over past 15 years, much of applied statistics has changed. Researchers and students can now easily fit a wide variety complex models generate elaborate graphical displays data with press few buttons on keyboard. Statistical software user interfaces does not require conceptual understanding driving ideas behind applications: design experiments, collection, descriptive statistics, statistical inference. While traditional undergraduate courses may provide some background useful algorithms, they frequently leave student cook-book algorithmic recipes rather than any true [Hawkins, et al. 1992], [Garfield & Ahlgren 1988]. In addition, while be able to memorize details solve familiar well-defined problem, often fail grasp underpinnings methods are therefore unable apply their knowledge new situations.
