Courage and confidence to stop lying: caregiver perspectives on a video to support paediatric HIV disclosure in Kampala, Uganda.

摘要: The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that HIV-positive children are told their diagnosis by age 12 years. However, most perinatally-infected reach adolescence without being HIV status. Effective strategies needed to promote disclosure, and optimise children's health outcomes as they transition adulthood. This qualitative study explored how caregivers of aged 7-12 years perceived related a video used part larger behavioural intervention full disclosure Eight semi-structured interviews 3 group reflection sessions with 28 were analysed thematically. Five themes generated: courage confidence; reasoning empathy; child- caregiver relationship; foreign but relatable; not reaching everyone. was found acceptable appropriate for fostering readiness disclose. Through watching it, participants reported could see people similar themselves prevail despite challenges, which gave them courage.
