Effects of eicosapentaenoic acid in patients with bronchial asthma

摘要: Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) is composed of 20 unsaturated fatty acids and similar to arachidonic acid. Epadel, the drug made from EPA, reported not only reduce levels serum lipids, but also have antiinflammatory antiallergic effects. EPA may exert these effects via control production prostanoids leukotrienes. We studied in patients with bronchial asthma who had hyperlipidemia. The patents were given at 1800 mg/day they recorded signs symptoms an diary during a 2-week observation period 8 weeks which took drug. Peak flow, leukotriene B4 concentration urine, Leukotriene E4 IgE level, total cholesterol triglyceride level measured before after medication.
