From Autonomy To Pragmatism: Objects Made Moral

摘要: This paper departs from a problem that architects often face: do they really have to choose between their interest in the production of built objects (in shape, spatiality, etc.) and commitment broader social concerns? Must focus on concerns at expense object order be morally responsible? These questions touch relations autonomy criticality which been fiercely debated recent architectural theory: does rest autonomy? After introducing these controversies disentangling notion center, I propose look into philosophical tradition pragmatism as offering way out. Following some interpretations pragmatism, this addresses possibility an immanent critique, reconciliation ethics aesthetics, ethnographies show active participants design practice, investigates how pragmatist view ecology invites sensitivity objects’ moral claims.
