摘要: The pollution of aquatic ecosystems with heavy metals has become a worldwide concern. This is because their ability to bioaccumulate in organisms and especially fish which source livelihood for human populations. Therefore, an assessment metal contamination (Cu, Zn, Pb, Cr Mn) two selected food species, Clarias gariepinus Oreochromis spirulus niger Masinga reservoir was carried out between January 2013 December 2013. Heavy Concentrations were determined using atomic absorption spectrophotometer. data obtained analyzed one way analysis variance significant differences accepted at p ≤ 0.05. Post Hoc Turkeys' test used separate means. In gariepinus, mean concentrations (mg/kg) muscles Cu (0.677 - 0.974), Zn (32.929 37.205), Pb (0.643 1.078), (0.516 0.858) Mn (0.452 0.990). exhibited significance difference the sites (p < 0.05). Mean values different (0.515 0.782), (29.645 37.999), (0.552 0.765), (0.559 0.791) (0.183 1.480). Only showed species lower than World Health Organization (WHO) set limit except Cr. Results from this study demonstrate need ecosystem approach towards sustainable management reservoirs. will curb health risk people consuming resources contaminated metals.
