African Urbanisation and Urbanism: Implications for risk accumulation and reduction

摘要: Abstract There is an increasing recognition of the need to understand and address risks various kinds in African cities. However, there have been very few explicit examinations way which specific characteristics urbanisation urbanism drive risk, or responses risk should take these into account. This paper presents a critical review key features urban experiences, analyses implications for creation reduction diverse risks, from everyday extensive. It argues that physical forms, social structures, economic pathways, governance systems cities on continent shape their profiles. Of particular importance are nature spatial expansion, demographic profiles cities, prevalence informal economies settlements; while reform will be enable reduction. The concludes development actors consider consequences actions practitioners engage with all elements development, including informality, poverty, infrastructure service provision, land management, local capacity.
