摘要: Abstract Despite decades of research, few medications have gained Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for the management substance abuse disorder. The paucity successful can be attributed, in part, to lack clearly identified neurobiological targets addressing core pathology addictive behavior. Commonalities behavioral brain processes involved rewarding effects drugs foods has prompted evaluation candidate that target neural pathways both drug eating disorders. Here, pharmacological strategies development novel addiction are presented context potential overlapping disorders (e.g., obesity, overeating, binge-eating) abuse. Mechanisms discussed this chapter include modulators gut-brain axis leptin, ghrelin, cholecystokinin, cocaine- amphetamine-regulated transcript, pancreatic peptides) neurotransmitter systems opioids, cannabinoids, dopamine, serotonin, acetylcholine).
