摘要: Heart transplant remain the definitive therapy for end-stage heart failure but is limited by availability of suitable donors. Ventricular assist devices (VAD) are designed as mechanical pumps to supplement or replace function damaged ventricles and maintain appropriate blood flow in patients with failure. Survival rates continue increase patient VAD infection remains a major cause morbidity mortality patients. The authors describe current concepts regarding definitions, diagnosis, microbiology principles management VAD-associated infections. have also summarised prevention strategies infections
