Burnout, vigour, big five personality traits and social support in a sample of police officers

摘要: Orientation: Burnout occurs as a result of prolonged job stress, which is phenomenon prevalent amongst police officers in South Africa. Whilst some suffer from burnout, others elude the pathological effects burnout and execute their duties vigorously under same circumstances. Research purpose: The purpose study was to obtain an understanding officer’s need reduce stressors utilise personal social sources mitigate negative stressors. Motivation for study: causes health consequences officers. Those who are affected reflect withdrawal behaviour through operational disruption or lower productivity work context. design, approach method: research has non-experimental design quantitative tradition with cross-sectional data-collection method. availability sample ( N = 505) included participants different demographic backgrounds. A survey used measure all constructs at single point time. Main findings: Neuroticism lack family support predicted whilst conscientiousness emotional stability vigour. This followed by significant other, physical strength, friend energy cognitive liveliness. Practical/managerial implications: provides markers selection purposes calls on management be aware value prevention encouraging supervisor designs.
