Food Habits of Cave-Dwelling Bats in the Central Appalachians

摘要: The food habits of four species cave-dwelling bats, Eptesicus fuscus, Myotis keenii, M. lucifugus , and Pipistrellus subflavus were investigated in the central Appalachians. Information was based primarily on analysis fecal pellets; however, some stomachs also examined for items comparison with first procedure. Coleopterans hemipterans occurred more than 70% adult male E. fuscus samples. All green stink bugs, Acrosternum hilare . More 50% keenii samples contained coleopteran, lepidopteran, neuropteran fragments. neuropterans represented by Hemerobiidae (brown lacewings). Coleoptera, Diptera, Lepidoptera Fifty percent Diptera midges (Chironomidae). homopterans present P. Other important prey dipterans, hymenopterans, lepidopterans. Adult captured concurrently differed their habits. did or samples, whereas took from same insect orders approximately proportion. In general, appeared to be dietary specialists, generalized diets.
