Optic pathway/hypothalamic gliomas: a dilemma in management.

摘要: Optic pathway gliomas follow an unpredictable course. Some remain static for years; others increase rapidly in size and often lead to death. This unpredictability, along with the histological similarity of these tumors, has resulted controversy about their management. We have reviewed results management all 62 patients a diagnosis optic pathway/hypothalamic glioma treated at The Hospital Sick Children during years 1976-1990. Twelve received no direct treatment, 3 only biopsy. Six were radiotherapy alone. Eight following Seventeen by resection alone 16 had followed radiotherapy. chemotherapy addition other therapy, 5 them was given as initial therapy. Forty-eight are well visual deficits but 7 receiving hormone replacement significant neurologic 8 died.
