摘要: [1] High-latitude lakes are important for terrestrial carbon dynamics and waterfowl habitat driving a need to better understand controls on lake area changes. To identify the existence cause of recent changes in Yukon Flats, region discontinuous permafrost north central Alaska, we evaluate remotely sensed imagery with water isotope compositions hydroclimatic parameters. Isotope indicate that mixtures precipitation, river water, groundwater source ~95% studied lakes. The remaining minority more dominantly sourced by snowmelt and/or thaw. Isotope-based balance estimates 58% lose than half inflow evaporation. For 26% studied, evaporative losses exceeded supply. Surface trend analysis indicates most were near their maximum extent early 1980s during relatively cool wet period. Subsequent reductions can be explained moisture deficits greater
