Consumer-directed care and the relational triangle: Power, subordination and competing demands – a qualitative study

摘要: Purpose Following a recent government initiated change to consumer-directed care model across the Australian community aged sector, purpose of this paper is explore frontline home support workers’ perceptions relational changes with clients in power and subordination within triadic relationship between employer, employee client. Design/methodology/approach Contextual interviews were held managers (n=4), coordinators (n=10) semi-structured face-to-face workers (n=17) three organizations. Interview transcripts analyzed. Findings Some did not perceive their relationships clients. Others perceived minimal but concerned about incoming client generation (baby boomers) that more aware rights. felt subordinated client, loss control or treated like an client. Consistent philosophy care, senior staff encouraged treat way. Research limitations/implications Further research recommended on worker context consumer focused model. Practical implications A clear realistic understanding locus by all actors important for positive workplace outcomes. Social implications The increasing ageing population makes it essential organization are unambiguous. Originality/value This study contribution theories transfer implementation through workers. Examination rather than prism organizational policy deepens service work relationships.
