摘要: Compared to younger patients, traumatic injury in older patients is associated with increased mortality and a range of adverse outcomes such as higher rates infectious episodes, longer length hospital stay poor functional outcome at follow up. Data emerging from human murine-based studies suggest age-related changes immune function, collectively termed immunesenescence, the chronic sub-clinical systemic inflammatory state adults, inflammaging, may contribute these outcomes. Here, we review findings studies, whose results demonstrate that geriatric trauma patient elicits an response distinct being characterised by reduced cell activation, impaired function abnormal haematopoiesis, defects are accompanied altered fails return homeostatic baseline days following injury. Although considerable evidence accumulating demonstrates clear significant differences injury, our current understanding mechanism(s) underlie limited. Future provide mechanistic explanation for unique adults therefore essential if determine whether manipulation system has potential future therapeutic strategy which improve patient.
