摘要: A longitudinal cohort study of older adults with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) who were stratified by FEV(1) at enrollment was done to define the etiology, frequency, severity, and medical-care impact respiratory tract viral infections (RTVIs). Controls consisted a group subjects comparable age patients. RTVIs documented in 44% observed acute illnesses control 27% COPD subjects, followed for mean periods 35 26 mo, respectively. In this heavily influenza-vaccinated ( approximately 90% vaccinated each year), picornaviruses, parainfluenza viruses, coronaviruses most commonly identified. Mean time return clinical baseline 2 wk group. Control mild airways obstruction (baseline >/= 50% predicted) had few emergency-center visits or hospitalizations. Approximately half moderate/severe < least one visit and/or hospitalization illness. 23% hospitalizations 45% patients admitted between December March. have major on utilization health care resources obstruction.
