摘要: Abstract The development of ever more efficient gas turbines has always been paced by the results research and in concurrent fields design materials technology. Improved structural airfoil cooling technology applied to higher strength-at-temperature alloys cast increasingly complex methods, coated with steadily improved coating systems, have led remarkably turbine engines for aircraft propulsion power generation. For first stage blades, nickel-based superalloys various wrought forms, augmented coatings since 1960s, singularly successful systems past 50 years—and still no real world substitutes are on horizon. This paper traces history protective superalloy airfoils beginning simple aluminides, followed modifications silicon, chromium platinum, then MCrAlY overlay coatings, finally elegant electron beam vapor deposited ceramic thermal barrier recently introduced service. publicly available several decades supporting these advances highlighted. These include generic oxidation hot corrosion mechanisms intricacies oxide adherence, low temperature (Type II) corrosion, aluminide formation mechanical properties alloy–coating systems. With promising beyond nickel-base apparent foreseeable future, continued progress will likely be made further refinement control thermally grown cost effective manufacturing processes contemporary types coatings.
