摘要: Laparoscopic technology is likely to have an increasing impact on surgical procedures that previously required open approach. We prospectively evaluated laparoscopic colectomy in 40 patients requiring elective colonic excision mainly for malignant disease. 33 of had a successfully completed colectomy, although there was one postoperative death. Seven operations were unsuccessful and conversion conventional laparotomy. Morbidity low with no wound infections only two chest the 32 survivors. Early mobilisation discharge from hospital (mean 8 days) notable feature. Previous abdominal surgery not absolute contraindication colectomy. However, inability palpate colon directly confirm site laparoscopically impalpable lesions leads us recommend contrast radiology location colonoscopically diagnosed before assisted Preliminary pathological assessment resected tumour specimens revealed satisfactory clearance. conclude feasible operation most substantial patient benefit without compromising chance cure cancer.
