摘要: Worldwide, osteoarthritis is one of the most prevalent diseases. It causes high disability rates and represents a heavy burden to patients society. In recent years, important findings about normal function chondrocyte, only cell in articular cartilage responsible for matrix metabolism, have been made. Chondrocytes respond fluctuant conditions their environment, generated by mechanical pressure changes, modifying ionic composition altering solute water membrane transport. This characteristic key factor extracellular maintenance, necessary functional cartilage. A number factors related chronic metabolic diseases initiate cascade events that lead an inadequate response chondrocytes load; this ends preponderance catabolism impairement cartilage, which basis development osteoarthritis. Several cytokines hormones are involved process they may become promising therapeutic targets.
