摘要: Abstract Background and purpose To estimate the prevalence of insomnia symptoms syndrome in general population, describe types self-help treatments consultations initiated for insomnia, examine help-seeking determinants. Patients methods A randomly selected sample 2001 French-speaking adults from province Quebec (Canada) responded to a telephone survey about sleep, its treatments. Results Of total sample, 25.3% were dissatisfied with their 29.9% reported symptoms, 9.5% met criteria an syndrome. Thirteen percent respondents had consulted healthcare provider specifically lifetime, practitioners being most frequently consulted. Daytime fatigue (48%), psychological distress (40%), physical discomfort (22%) main determinants prompting individuals seek treatment. 15% used at least once herbal/dietary products facilitate sleep 11% prescribed medications year preceding survey. Other strategies employed included reading, listening music, relaxation. Conclusions These findings confirm high population.
