An ecological analysis of child sexual abuse disclosure: considerations for child and adolescent mental health.

摘要: OBJECTIVES: Research continues to indicate a concerning number of children and youth, between 60-80%, withhold disclosure until adulthood suggesting that many endure prolonged victimization or never receive necessary intervention. The study aim was qualitatively identify factors impede promote child sexual abuse (CSA) disclosure. METHODS: Using phenomenological design, forty adult survivors CSA were interviewed about their experiences provide retrospective accounts childhood adolescent experiences, attempts, meaning-making these experiences. RESULTS: Findings show is multiply determined by complex interplay related characteristics, family environment, community influences, cultural societal attitudes. An ecological analysis offered understand complexities. Unless barriers are eradicated, negative effects can persist manifesting in serious mental health issues. CONCLUSIONS: Practitioners expect work with children, adolescents adults who have withheld attempted tell over time having experienced wide range responses.
