摘要: The foreign hybrid collection of sugarcane germplasm comprising 399 clones representing 10 geographical groups, was evaluated for nine yield and quality characters, in relation to their place origin. Discriminant function analysis showed that all the variables contributed significantly discrimination maximum contribution being cane height. overall percentage correct classification only 48%, with a range from 32% 73% respect individual groups. This suggests an underlying genetic similarity among which stem largely common base. exceptions were Hawaii Mauritius had distinct identities. group most productive group, having sucrose potential. Puerto Rico best source juice sucrose. Australian varieties bred high did not show expected level present study. use breeding programmes Hawaiian varieties, have broader base potential, might impart better productivity commercial varieties.
