摘要: Three very large styrofoam models of glomerular capillary tufts have been built, based on serial ultrathin sections which cut through three complete rat glomeruli isolated from all regions renal cortex. The images are enlarged 20" × 24" wide-field electron micrographs, each is traced discs and then individually connected. These can be disassembled to measure the width length segment map complicated vascular arrangement. Each randomly selected has arteriolar openings passing Bowman's capsule–-e.g., an afferent opening two closely situated efferent openings. consists major lobules, e.g., larger lateral lobules a smaller central lobule. Assuming model positioned so that pole superior arteriole closer observer than vessels, lobule occupying frontal right portion originates branching reconverges at opening. left connects both with few interlobular anastomoses. diameter anastomoses, volume listed. technique isolation reembedment construction described in detail.
