摘要: Abstract The family of StAR related lipid transfer proteins (START) is so-named based on the distinctive capacity for these to transport lipids between membranes. START domain a module about 210 residues, which binds such as glycerolipids, sphingolipids and sterols. This has deep lipid-binding pocket – shields hydrophic ligand from external aqueous environment covered by lid. Based their homology, fifteen in mammals have been allocated six distinct subfamilies, each subfamily being more specialized and/or sensing species. However within same subgroup, expression profile subcellular localization distinguish them are critical different biological functions. Indeed, act variety physiological processes, intracellular compartments, metabolism modulation signaling events. Mutation or deregulated linked pathological including genetic disorders, autoimmune diseases cancers. Besides common single domain, always located at carboxy-terminal end mammals, most harbor additional domains predicted be favoring exchange. Evidence well characterized indicates that might tethering machineries able bring organelles together create membrane contact sites prone exchange via domain.
