Brexit and the Dutch Fishing Industry

摘要: Brexit has become a reality, and not only at the negotiation table in Brussels. In fishing industry, created uncertainty over access to grounds national allocations of EU Total Allowable Catches (TACs) by fish species. This is already affecting investment decisions. Each Member State its own Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), which sea area defined International Law that extends up 200 nautical miles from coast State. Within EU, States have equal grounds. Dutch fisheries are highly dependent on UK EEZ, where (pelagic) trawlers particular, targeting herring mackerel, active (Figure 1). The other types (so called bottom trawlers) target species like plaice, sole common shrimp. They mainly North Sea, partly EEZ although less so than pelagic trawlers.
