摘要: In order to study maternal mortality in Ilala District Dar es Salaam Tanzania all female deaths the 12-44 year age group were registered from February 1991 January 1993. After a follow-up relative of deceased was interviewed classify death as associated with pregnancy or not. Eight data collectors employed collect information. The team visited each 72 areas at least once 2 weeks. also mortuaries grave yards and religious premises get information on deaths. All hospitals district regularly visited. A detailed history taken woman according structured questionnaire. 645 identified 117 (18%) Most interviews (73%) made home. 32% cases interviewee mother 26% sister 4-9% husband aunt uncle father daughter. Only 10% women did not seek any medical treatment prior death. Three out 4 had fever before second most common symptom shortness breath (56%) median duration 6 days. About half lost weight complained abdominal pain been pale vomiting. Medical records available only 44% cases. According physicians 22 (3.5%) cause possible determine.
