摘要: The Bransfield Strait, located between the South Shetland Islands and north-western end of Antarctic Peninsula, is a back-arc basin transitional rifting spreading. We compiled geomorphological structural map Basin combining published data interpretation bathymetric images. Several analogue experiments reproducing interaction Scotia, Antarctic, Phoenix plates were carried out. fault configuration observed in was well reproduced by one these models. results suggest establishment transpressional regime to west southern segment Shackleton Fracture Zone transtensional south-west Scotia Ridge at least c. 7 Ma. A probable mechanism for opening requires two processes: 1) Significant effects caused drift vector Plate after activity West ceased 2) Roll-back under cessation spreading 3.3 ± 0.2 Ma, causing north-westward migration Trench.
