摘要: Refrigerant sprays have been used for pain relief at the time of minor office procedures. However, their sterility remains in question. This study investigates microbiologic effect this vapocoolant when sprayed after 70 % isopropyl alcohol skin preparation. In 50 healthy volunteers, three culture samples were collected: Group 1 prior to application; 2 preparation with alcohol, and 3 followed spray. Samples cultured a blinded fashion analyzed 5 days incubation. Gram staining was performed cultures positive. Bacterial growth found 98 % any reduced 54 % use (Group 2). Spraying refrigerant further bacterial 46 % 3). The results showed significant reduction number positive following prep by spray (p < 0.001) compared initial cultures. No statistical difference observed between Groups (p = 0.74). does not compromise prep. Both antiseptic significantly reduce colonization unprepared (p < 0.001). journal requires that authors assign level evidence each article.
