Calibration of 14C Histograms : A Comparison of Methods

摘要: The interpretation of C-14 histograms is complicated by the non-linearity time scale in terms Calendar years, which may result clustering ages certain intervals unrelated to (geologic or archaeologic) phenomenon interest. One can calibrate for such distortions using two basic approaches. KORHIS method constructs a histogram before calibration performed means correction factor. We present CALHIS based on Groningen program individual ages. first calibrates Single and then sums resulting distributions, thus yielding calibrated histogram. distributions are normalized standard Gaussian distribution superposition, allowing direct comparison among various histograms. Several experiments with test data sets demonstrate that produces significantly better results than KORHIS.
