摘要: Objective To evaluate the safety and efficacy of in-office, temperature-controlled radiofrequency submucosal tissue volume reduction using Somnoplasty procedure for treatment symptomatic chronic obstructive tonsillar hypertrophy. Design A prospective, nonrandomized, 3-phase protocol in vitro vivo studies associated with operative tonsillectomy clinical procedures performed in-office. Setting Hospital operating room private practice otolaryngology office. Study Population In 14 tonsil specimens following tonsillectomy; 11 tonsils before on 9 adults, ages 24 to 47 years, Outcome Measures For phase 1, histologic sections; 2, sections clinician patient questionnaires regarding morbidity; 3, measurements oropharyngeal airway size morbidity symptom improvement. Results 2-needle probe ablated stromal while leaving overlying mucosa underlying structures intact. On average, was enlarged 12 mm, a 70.8% calculated size. Procedures were well tolerated had only minimal pain dysphagia. There no episodes hemorrhage, patients resumed normal activity within 1 2 days. Substantial improvement reported daytime sleepiness, snoring, voice clarity, swallowing, throat irritation. Conclusions Temperature-controlled is safe effective method treating It by under local anesthesia physician's office has postprocedure dysphagia, rapid return activity. The reduces increases size, leading symptoms.
