摘要: The present short-term in situ study was carried out a freshwater–wetland – Pateira de Fermentelos considered an enlargement of Certima River, the centre Portugal. This ecosystem is important fishing and recreation place, receiving effluents from different origins namely, electroplating industrial containing heavy metals, domestic wastes, as well pesticides fertilizers resulting agriculture activities. aim research work to monitor effects induced by contaminants water, using Anguilla anguilla L. (European eel) bioindicator. eels were caged for 48 h at four sites, differing their distances main known pollution source (Certima River): A (close lagoon entrance), B, C D (the farthest River). reference site selected near river spring. following parameters measured: liver ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase (EROD) alanine transaminase (ALT) activities, plasma levels cortisol, 17β-estradiol (E2), thyroid-stimulating-hormone (TSH), free thyroxine (T4), triiodothyronine (T3), glucose lactate. erythrocytic nuclear abnormalities (ENA) frequency also scored genotoxicity indicator. results revealed increased cortisol concentrations all exposure displaying similar response pattern. Plasma T3 showed significant decrease only when compared site, whereas E2 sites B other including site. indicate water contamination, demonstrating usefulness adopted strategy.
