摘要: Oxysterols are oxygenated derivatives of cholesterol formed in the human body or ingested diet. By modulating activity many proteins [e.g., liver X receptors (LXRs), oxysterol-binding (OSBPs), some ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters], oxysterols can affect cellular functions and influence various physiological processes (e.g., metabolism, membrane fluidity regulation, intracellular signaling pathways). Therefore, role is also important pathological conditions atherosclerosis, diabetes mellitus type 2, neurodegenerative disorders). Finally, current evidence suggests that play a malignancies such as breast, prostate, colon, bile duct cancer. This review summarizes importance with special emphasis on their roles tumors.
