The prevalence and causes of dementia in people under the age of 65 years

摘要: Objectives: To determine the prevalence of dementia in people under age 65 a large catchment area, and use these figures to estimate number younger affected by UK. Design: Epidemiological area survey. Setting: The London boroughs Kensington Chelsea, Westminster, Hillingdon with total population 567 500 people. Participants: All residents dementia, where illness began before years. Participants were notified study medical care professionals. diagnosis onset was established from all available health social records. In total, 227 identified, whom 185 fulfilled inclusion criteria having which started their 65th birthday. Main outcome measures: Diagnosis differential cause dementia. Results: those aged 30–64 54.0 per 100 000 (95% CI 45.1 64.1 000). For 45–64 years, 98.1 81.1 118.0 From 35 onwards, approximately doubled each 5 year increase age. Extrapolating nationally suggests that there are 18 319 (15 296–21 758) UK. Conclusions: confirms previous “guestimates” UK. generated robust, supported other smaller targeted surveys. provided this will allow planners accurately need plan services.
