摘要: The climate of West Africa is expected to become more arid due increased temperature and uncertain rainfall regimes, while its population grow faster than the rest world. As such, demand for food will likely coincide with declines in agricultural production a region where severe undernutrition already occurs. Here, we attempt discriminate between impacts other factors (e.g. land management/degradation) on crop across using satellite remote sensing. We identify trends the land surface phenology climate of African croplands 2000 2018. Using combination an attribution framework residual trend anlaysis, productivity. combined effect rainfall, solar radiation explains approximately 40% variation cropland productivity over at 95% significance level. largest proportions greening were observed Mali, Niger Burkina Faso, browning Nigeria, Gambia Benin. Climate was responsible 52% 25% trends. Within driving factors, changes explained 18% 37% region, use inputs irrigation 30% degradation 38% These findings have implications adaptation policies as map out areas need improved management practices those it has proven be successful.
