摘要: In a previous paper, we investigated the solitary-wave-like development of small-amplitude Rossby waves propagating in zonal shear current, for particular case when wave speed equals mean-flow velocity at certain latitude β-plane. We presented general theory nonlinear critical-layer theory, and illustrated it by explicitly describing motion depression solitary (D-wave). Here, report continuation that study consider more complex an elevation (E-wave). The method involves matched asymptotic expansions between outer flow away from critical layer inner inside latter, both these flows having different scalings. showed previously expansion diverged E-wave on separatrices bounding open closed streamlines, which led us to defer detailed study. Thus, this examine additional located along where singularity is removed using third scaling find undesirable distortions are discarded. evolution equation derived Korteveg-de-Vries type-equation modified new terms generated interactions occuring layer. This supports family E-waves provided mean obeys conditions. energy exchange occurs D or during formation evaluated quasi-steady regime assumption.
